A bit of this and that!

A bit of this and that!

barbershopSpecial events at Stillwaters Estates add enjoyment to everyday life. Next week we have a special musical event with The Two Town Tuners.  This is a large volunteer group of singers who do Barbershop and other vocals.  They will be here at The Gathering Place, Thursday, June 25th at 6:30 p.m. for an old fashioned Dessert Social.

If you would like to contribute a dessert please bring it to the Gathering Place before 6:15. Contributions to the Two Town Tuners expenses will be received as a goodwill offering at the event.

Come enjoy the sweets and the sweet music!

The Seattle to Portland Bicycle Ride (STP):  Coming Saturday, July 11th!  This 200 mile ride stopsSTP riders here in Centralia as the halfway mark.  This means about 8,000 riders stay overnight in our area.  With family and friends this can mean an extra few thousand people in the area.  If you want to avoid crowds but sure to avoid the college campus and streets through the center of Centralia that day.  Riders start arriving about 9 a.m. from Seattle and stragglers arrive up to late in the afternoon.  Several thousand riders go on to Portland the same day (Crazy!) and only stop for food, first aid and a rest.  If you don’t mind the crowds – take a stroll through the college campus that afternoon or evening as they have food, drink and entertainment for the masses who stay overnight.

Wanted:  The Chamber of Commerce coordinates housing, luggage and other activities for this event. They are looking for volunteers for all sorts of jobs that day.  Mr. Blogger and I will be there again this year volunteering at the First Aid Station and have over the years volunteered in several roles with the Chamber.  This is a lot of fun and you meet fascinating and oh so appreciative riders.

They are also looking for housing for riders.  On Monday of this week they were short about 50 places for people to stay and would be thrilled if you had room to take one or two in.  They reimburse $50 per rider for the stay (which includes dinner on Saturday, July 11th and breakfast the next day, Sunday July 12th).  Call the Chamber at 748-8885 if you are interested in volunteering that day or offering a place to stay.
