Fun on a rainy day!

Today and in the days ahead it appears that rain is the main forecast.  Good thing we live in a community that most always has concerts, fundraisers or other activities going on.  This week’s blog is all about what’s happening and ideas for fun on these rainy days.

quilt1. Quilting show today and tomorrow:

The In Stitches and Stitch ‘N Go Quilt Groups are having their 2016 Quilt Show this Friday from 10am-6pm and Saturday, 10am-5pm at Centralia Christian School, located at 1315 South Tower Ave. More than 200 quilts will be on display, along with a country store. Tickets are $5 each. Call 360-748-7538 for more information.

2. Dinner and Auction Saturday:

The Chehalis STEM Booster Club is having its Little Italy Dinner and Auction fundraiser this Saturday, at the W.F. West High School Commons. Seating opens at 5:30 and dinner starts at 6. Tickets are $15 each and available from any robotics student or booster club member. Tickets may also be purchased at Palmer Lumber and Book n Brush. For more information, call 360-550-5850.

3. Evergreen Playhouse Theatre Tonight through Sunday:

The Evergreen Playhouse presents the play Voice of the Prairie: The Laura Ingalls Wilder Story. This American classic focuses on the struggles and victories the Ingalls family experience as they try to craft a life on the American prairie. The play will run February 12-14th, 18th-21st, and 26th-28th. Show times are 8pm Fridays and Saturdays and 2:00pm on Sundays. There will also be a Thursday pay-what-you-can night on February 18th, at 7:30pm. The Evergreen Playhouse is located at 226 West Center Street in Centralia. For more information, call 360-304-9288.

4.Gardening for everyone Saturday:

If you’re interested in learning more about gardening, make sure and attend the Lewis County Master Gardeners class, Gardening for Everyone. The free class will be held on Saturday, February 27th, from 9am-2:30pm, at Washington Hall, at Centralia College. You’ll learn about growing tomatoes, deer resistant landscaping, planning and building raised beds, lawns, and much more. Call 360-740-1216 for more information.

5. FOX Theatre Show Saturday:

Historic Fox Theatre Restorations will be screening “Cabaret,” the next film in its 2016 Film Series, at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Fox Theater in downtown Centralia. The 1972 musical drama is set in Berlin in 1931. American cabaret singer Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli) meets British academic Brian Roberts (Michael York), who is finishing his university studies. The movie is rated PG with some adult themes. Admission for the movie is $10 per person, $8 for members, and $25 per family (three to four persons). Presale tickets for the movie are available on Brown Paper Tickets at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2489911, at Book ‘n’ Brush in Chehalis, and Holley’s Place, HUBBUB, Santa Lucia Coffee and PostNet in Centralia. musical note6. Music Concert on Sunday:

The Central Washington University Ventus Trio Concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Centralia College’s Corbet Theatre. The trio consisting of Hal Ott (flute), Daniel Lipori (bassoon) and Maria Roditileva-Wibe (piano) will perform a Beethoven and Brahms program. The Beethoven piece is Trio in D Major, Op. 70, No. 1, “Ghost.” The Brahms selection is Trio in B Major, Op. 8. There is no admission charge for the concert.

7.  Movies:  Then there is always the opportunity to go to a movie.  Check out what’s playing in town and go have some fun.  Click HERE for the Midway Theatre 151 NE Hampe Way or click HERE for McMenamins Olympic Club Hotel to see what movies are showing in the local theatres.

8.  TV:  And if you don’t want to leave home and are a fan of the Oscars – get your popcorn ready for Sunday night’s showing on ABC.  The opening ceremonies are at 4 p.m. with the actual Oscars at 5:30 p.m.
